A matter of life and death?
Will Stingray and baby Kerry survive the bone-marrow transplant?
The Timmins family are well known for their offbeat sense of humour and happy-go-lucky attitude - but there are few laughs to be had in the household this week, as two members of the clan fight for their lives. However, according to Nell Feeney, who plays madcap mum Janelle, the noisy bunch couldn't be more united when faced with appalling tragedy...
"Dylan's baby girl, Kerry, needs a bone-marrow transplant to treat her leukaemia, and the only person who can help is Janelle's youngest son, Stingray," explains the actress. "He's very brave about the whole thing, and didn't think twice volunteering to go under the knife. That's what the Timminses are all about. When the odds are stacked against them, they come together and would do anything for each other."
Given that Stingray's now seeing Kerry's mum, Sky, you might expect his and Dylan's relationship to be more strained than ever. But the opposite is actually true, as everyone gathers for a special ceremony before the operation.
"There was a lot of tension between Stingray and Dylan over Sky, but that's cast aside now that Stingray's doing this amazing thing," Nell reveals. "Inspired by Harold, Sky comes up with the idea of holding a commitment ceremony for her and Stingray prior to the transplant. It's very touching, and nobody anticipates anything will go wrong later..."
Nell admits that while we can expect baby Kerry to pull through, complications arise when Stingray is on the operating table. It's no secret that actor Ben Nicholas, who plays him, is soon to depart Neighbours - but will his alter ego pass away during surgery?
"I can't say," Nell teases. "I can tell you one thing, though - filming these storylines, and all the events that happen over the next few weeks, was new territory for me. I'm used to playing Janelle as an upbeat kind of character, but it ends up being a very dark period for her and the whole family."
