Sky and Boyd's Sea Change
The long-time Ramsay Street residents leave for good to move north - but not as a couple
The long-time Ramsay Street residents leave for good to move north - but not as a couple
Get set to say a final goodbye to three Ramsay Street residents this week - Boyd, Sky and her baby daughter Kerry. TV WEEK was on the Melbourne set of the long-running soap when stars Stephanie McIntosh and Kyal Marsh, who play Sky and Boyd, filmed their final scenes. And we can reveal that the one-time couple decide to leave Erinsborough, Victoria, together - just as friends - to start new lives in Port Douglas, Queensland. "I think Boyd does have a lot of regret that things didn't work out on a romantic level between him and Sky," Kyal says. "But in the end, there's a mutual understanding between them - and they'll always have that bond."
Meanwhile, in real life, Steph and Kyal have very different plans. Twenty-two-year-old Steph, who was 17 when she joined Neighbours, is hoping to concentrate on her solo singing career. "I'm so emotional to be leaving, and very sad. It's such a surreal thing," she says through tears. "I've grown up on this show and had such a lot of fun. Initially, I'll be focusing on my music. Juggling the two has been really hectic." That said, Steph admits she's pleased her character isn't being killed off. "I rang them straightaway and said, 'A happy ending, please!' I think Sky's been through enough," she says. "I'm really happy to be leaving with Kyal. I feel I've done the full circle with him, as we both started around the same time. I did my first-ever scene with Kyal, and I finished my last scene with him." So is there any chance we could one day see Sky back in Ramsay Street? "Never say never!" replies a smiling Steph.
As for Kyal, he'll now reassess his future after five years on Neighbours. "I've got my flight to London booked already and a little bit of work lined up over there," Kyal says. "I'll also be doing some travelling with Ben Nicholas (who played Stingray), who's currently over in the UK. As sad as this is, it's exciting as well because it's a new beginning for me." Kyal reveals he'd consider tackling another role on our screens. "The next year or two is going to be me sussing out what I want to do - going for acting roles and seeing if that's what I really want. This will be the turning point."
