Flaming Mad!
Every aspect of Sky Mangel’s pregnancy has been fraught with complications, sop it’s hardly surprising that this week’s birth is a tense affair. In addition to the child being born dangerously premature, nutty Teresa Cammeniti is hell-bent on stealing the baby for herself. As the hour of the delivery draws closer, Teresa’s cousin, Carmella, is the only person who realises how unhinged the young woman has become – leading to a horrific attack…
“Carmella’s in a difficult position when it comes to her cousin, because she was responsible for having Teresa’s own baby adopted – and that’s something Teresa has never recovered from,” explains Natalie Blair, who plays Carmella. “She feels very guilty about it, thought she has no idea just how much it affected Teresa. Carmella can see that her fixation with Sky is a bit weird, but she doesn’t think she’d go as far as stealing the baby, even though the warning signs are all there.”
Oblivious to any real danger, Sky grows closer Teresa, despite having received a few home truths from Carmella.
“Teresa has given Sky the impression that she’s married and has a child of her own, and it’s down to Carmella to tell Sky that she’s lying,” reveals Natalie. “Sky’s really understanding, though, and sees her new friend as being a sad and lonely person, rather than a threat. Teresa takes advantage of her trust to further her plan to take the baby after the birth,”
When Sky later finds ex-boyfriend Dylan in bed with his former lover, Elle, the shock sends her into premature labour – and Teresa is ready to act…
“She’s removed from the ward after overreacting to Sky’s early labour,” Sighs Natalie. “But Teresa intends to sneak back in by stealing Carmella’s orderly uniform from No 30. She gets caught, though, and Carmella realises what she’s planning, so Teresa throws a pan of hot in her face and escapes!”
As Sky gives birth to a girl – naming her ‘Kerry’, after her late mum – and a shocked Will finds Carmella and rushes her to the hospital, Teresa is desperate to create a diversion. So she sets the place ablaze – putting dozens of lives at risk.
“A lot more people than just Carmella are going to feel the consequences of Teresa’s craziness,” promises Natalie. “You’ll just have to watch to see how badly…”
